Smart Business: Cast Family.
Farmers & Merchants Bank is happy to feature the Cast Family as our Smart Business of the month.
Their story began in 1893, when they emigrated from Germany to Nebraska. They put down roots in Seward County and built a farm that continues to be the foundation of the family.
Roy Cast, along with Norma, work the farm that his ancestors cultivated so long ago. Their children, Debra, Doug and David, were the quintessential farm kids, helping their parents plant, harvest and tackle other chores on the farm. With agriculture running deep in their blood, each Cast child grew up to continue working in the field (and fields). Both Doug and David have their own farming businesses while Debra’s family is involved in the ag industry.
But farming isn’t the only way the Cast family contributes to the community and the Nebraska way of life. For many years the family collaborated with Nebraska Extension, conducting on-farm research that answers agronomy questions and helps all farmers with their yield.
To honor their long-standing dedication to farming and community, the Cast Family was given the Kiwanis Outstanding Farm Family Award, a recognition of excellence and progress in agriculture.
Their ties to Farmers & Merchants Bank also have deep roots. Roy’s grandfather was an original investor in Home State Bank of Beaver Crossing, which is now one of our locations. Roy’s mother and daughter-in-law have both worked at the bank, while his granddaughter-in-law currently is employed here. Roy himself is a current stockholder and Director of the bank.
Since we’re all about growing great relationships, we’re incredibly proud to have the Cast Family, a true pillar of the community, as a business banking customer.
