Hometown Pride Winner: Weeping Water Community Boosters
When a community embraces a good idea, great things happen. Like when 21 people got together and founded the Weeping Water Community Boosters.
The year was 1988. The school didn’t have a booster club, so these compassionate folks decided to step up. Before long, they expanded their efforts to support the entire community.
Leaders, friends, and neighbors gathered to discuss how they could support the people of Weeping Water. They envisioned fundraisers, special events, and generally being the helping hands every school and community needs. That’s when they established their mission, “Working to better our community and school.”
After more than 34 years in action, the Weeping Water Community Boosters have raised nearly $60,000 to enrich their hometown.
They have provided funds for scholarships, athletic uniforms, school and city library enhancements, Limestone Days activities, and the city summer softball program.
“I love that we’re a diverse group that came together to work towards a goal,” said member Cindy Spilinek, “with grandparents and parents of current Weeping Water students, graduates, and parents of former students. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past 34 years, and hope we continue for many years to come.”
Every dime this dynamic group raises goes straight to their community, so it’s no surprise that their Hometown Pride $500 award is already earmarked to support the playground project at the city lakes park. Sounds like a perfect way to better the community!
From all of us at Farmers & Merchants Bank — thank you for all that you’ve done and continue to do for the Weeping Water community!
